We only pass through here once

A celebratory journey, and a surprise

The journey

Cathy asked me what I wanted to do for my 80th birthday. Did I want a party? I said I wanted to spend three weeks travelling around this wonderful country of ours.

And so we did.

Three weeks, 21 days, 4200 kms in our reliable truck-like Isuzu at 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres (it’s important you know!) staying in 11 different places.

We stayed with friends and family in Hout Bay, Somerset West, Knysna, and San Lameer, and stayed in other accommodation in Kokstad, Maclear, Middleburg (Cape), Sutherland, Port Elizabeth, Morgan Bay and Umngazi River.

It was wonderful.

Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while. Mark 6:31.

The following are some of the scenes we captured on the journey:

Cape Peninsula. The view looking north from the contour path above Sandy Bay.

Sunset over the Knysna estuary.

Cape White Eye.

Sunrise, Morgan Bay.

Umngazi River Bungalows.
